Introduction
Building your own 30W rechargeable Bluetooth speaker box at home is not only cost-effective but also gives you complete freedom to design a premium-looking, high-bass portable speaker exactly the way you want. In this project, I designed the entire speaker enclosure myself using 6mm MDF board, carefully calculating the dimensions based on the speaker size, amplifier board, Bluetooth module, bass port pipe, battery, and wiring layout.
Instead of following readymade box formulas, this build focuses on practical enclosure design, solid air sealing, and proper internal component placement to achieve clean sound, strong bass, and distortion-free output. The speaker box is powered by a 12V lithium battery, making it fully portable and suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
This article explains each step in a professional, easy-to-follow manner, exactly how I built the speaker box from scratch.

Components Required -
1. Enclosure & Mechanical Parts
- 6mm MDF board (dimensions as per speaker box design)
- PVC pipe (0.75" for bass port)
- Small PVC pipe pieces (for internal speaker mounting support)
- MDF waste dust (for gap filling)
- Fevicol (wood adhesive)
- Clamps (for strong panel fixing)
- Screws (0.5" or 0.75" gypsum / wood screws)
- Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)
- Spray paint / primer + final paint
- Hot glue sticks
2. Audio Components
- 3" (15W) x2 speakers (15W, 4 Ohm each)
- TPA3110 amplifier board (dual channel, 30W output)
- Bluetooth audio module
- Bass port pipe (PVC or ready-made)
3. Power & Control Components
- 12V lithium-ion battery pack
- SPST ON/OFF switch
- 12V DC female charging jack
- Diode (for reverse polarity protection)
- 7805 voltage regulator
4. Control & Interface Parts
- Volume potentiometer (100K)
- Bass & Treble potentiometer 100K
- Knobs for potentiometers
5. Wiring & Accessories
- Connecting wires (different colors recommended)
- Heat shrink tubing / insulation tape

Step 1: Planning the Speaker Box Dimensions
The first and most important step is deciding the enclosure size.
I used 6mm MDF boardDimensions were calculated according to the size of:
- 3" × 2 speakers (15W, 4Ω each)
- Amplifier board
- Bluetooth module
- Bass port pipe
- Battery and wiring space
👉 Important Tip:
There is no universal speaker box size. You should always decide dimensions based on your amplifier board and speaker layout, not random measurements.
Step 2: Cutting and Assembling MDF Panels
After cutting all MDF panels:
- Stick five sides of the box using Fevicol
- Leave the back panel open for later installation
- Use clamps to hold the panels firmly until the adhesive cures
This ensures:
- Strong bonding
- Proper alignment
- Airtight joints
Step 3: Adding Internal Corner Supports
To strengthen the enclosure:
- Cut 4 small MDF strips
- Stick them vertically in all four internal corners
- These pieces act as support blocks for the back panel screws
This step greatly improves:
- Structural rigidity
- Long-term durability
- Back panel stability
Step 4: Sealing All Air Gaps
Good bass depends heavily on air sealing.
- Mix MDF dust + Fevicol
- Fill all internal gaps and joints
- Ensure no air leakage anywhere inside the box
- Let the mixture dry completely
🔊 Even small air gaps can reduce bass performance significantly.
Step 5: Shaping and Smoothing the Front Panel
After drying:
- Smooth the entire enclosure using sandpaper
- Slightly curve the front panel edge
This improves:
- Visual appeal
- Professional finish
- Reduced sound diffraction
Step 6: Marking and Drilling Front Panel Holes
Accurate marking is crucial.
Drill holes for:
- Two 3" speakers
- Bluetooth module
- Bass port pipe
- 7805 voltage regulator area (inside mounting)
Use a cup drill bit to achieve:
- Clean round cuts
- Perfect alignment
- Professional look
Step 7: Preparing and Fixing the Back Panel
- Place the back panel
- Mark screw positions
- Drill pilot holes
- Tighten screws
- Trim any excess MDF
- Smooth using sandpaper
Then drill holes for:
- SPST switch
- 12V DC female charging jack
Step 8: Painting the Speaker Box
I used spray paint, which works but doesn’t provide maximum smoothness.
Recommended Painting Method
- Apply wood primer
- Sand lightly after drying
- Apply final paint coats
This gives:
- Smooth surface
- Premium finish
- Longer paint life
Step 9: Installing Speakers and Bass Port
Use PVC pipe for speaker mounting supportFix speakers using:
- 0.75" gypsum screws
- or 0.5" screws from inside the box
- Install bass port using 0.75" PVC pipe
- Seal it with hot glue
You can also:
- Buy a ready bass port
- Use a 3D-printed port
Step 10: Bluetooth Module Power Safety
Bluetooth modules require stable 5V power.
Solder a 7805 voltage regulator to the Bluetooth moduleThis ensures:
- Constant 5V supply
- Protection from overvoltage
- Long module life
Mount the module securely using screws.
Step 11: Installing Control Knobs
At the top panel:Drill 3 holes for:
- Volume
- Bass
- Treble potentiometers
This placement allows:
- Easy access
- Clean front appearance
Step 12: Amplifier Board and Wiring
For amplification, I used the TPA3110 based dual-channel Class-D amplifier board.

- Connect via SPST switch
Add a diode in forward bias to:
- Prevent reverse current
- Protect battery and circuit
Mount the battery firmly inside the box.
Step 14: Final Testing and Assembly
Before closing the box:
- Power ON the system
- Test Bluetooth connectivity
- Check sound clarity
- Verify bass response
- Ensure charging works properly
Once everything works perfectly:
- Close the back panel
- Tighten screws securely
